The Fuel and Energy Ministry and the Energoatom Nuclear Generation Company presented the Cabinet a draft strategy on nuclear sector development until 2030. The plan would put 11 new reactors online by 2030 and prolong the term of safe operation for acting nuclear reactors. Concorde Capital: Increasing Ukraine’s nuclear capacity is unlikely to harm thermal generation, as there will be no significant increase of nuclear capacity by 2030. Currently, Ukraine has 15 acting nuclear reactors with a total installed capacity of 13.82 GW. By 2030, 8-10 (8,82-10.82 GW) will be decommissioned. According to the Fuel and Energy Ministry’s proposition, these reactors will be replaced by 11 new units, with an estimated total capacity of 11 GW. Thus, Ukraine?s total nuclear capacity could increase to 14-16 GW (by 2-16%).
