Yesterday Ukrainian electricity export monopoly Ukrinterenergo sold 100 MW of export capacities (for the second quarter of 2007) at an open auction. Export capacity was sold in four lots 25MW each. All four lots were bought by Hungary’s Energy Capital which paid an average of USD 89 per MWh of electricity. Alexander Paraschiy: This is a success for Ukrinternergo, as the starting price was only 54 USD/MWh. Unfortunately, this will not directly benefit power generation companies, even Zakhidenergo which technically will provide electricity directly to Energy Capital, as GenCos are only allowed to sell power to the domestic wholesale market.
