Ukrzaliznytsya plans to buy 5 ths freight cars in 2009, Ukrainian Minister of Transport Yosyp Vinskiy said at a press conference yesterday. He confirmed Ukrzaliznytsya’s intentions to buy 4 ths freight cars in 2008, and said the company could attract loans for this purpose. Inna Perepelytsya: The announced sum for 2008 is two times more than was bought by Ukrzaliznytsya over 2007. Internal demand from the monopoly Ukrainian railway operator, based on these figures, will cover ~13-14% of total domestic freight railcar production in 2008-2009. This will help wagon makers diversify wagon sales, up to ~95% of which is currently being exported.
