Up to four new Cabinet ministers could be voted upon
by the Verkhovna Rada on Nov. 4, the Cabinet’s representative in the
parliament, Taras Melnychuk, announced on Telegram on Nov. 3.
At the time of writing, Oleksiy Reznikov had been
voted in as Defense Minister.
The parliament will further consider:
– Iryna Vereshchuk for Reintegration of the
Temporarily Occupied Territories Minister;
– Pavlo Ryabikin for Strategic Industries Minister;
– Yulia Svyridenko for Economy Minister.
Another vacant position, that of Environment Minister,
is not on the agenda for Nov. 4. On Nov. 3, along with removing the
predecessors in those posts, the legislature also dismissed Roman Abramovsky as
Ecology Minister. His replacement is likely to be the current Deputy Digital
Transformation Minister Ruslan Strilets as Acting Ecology Minister,
pravda.com.ua reported.
James Hydzik: Reznikov’s support was all but guaranteed, as by law his nomination
comes from the President. The other three should also have few problems. One
reason for the change regarding the Ecology position is that Abramovsky was
well regarded by the parliamentary Ecology Committee, and that placing an
Acting Minister will require less political capital at a time when the “new
look” Cabinet is being assembled.
