Deputy Finance Minister Serhiy Verlanov was nominated
on Apr. 23 by a state commission to serve as head of the State Tax Service. He
was among three finalists in a competition judged by a commission – which
included entrepreneurs, financial experts and MPs – that recommended his
candidacy to the Cabinet of Ministers.
Meanwhile, the competition to select the new head of
the State Customs Service has been halted by a state commission, the Finance
Ministry press service reported.
Zenon Zawada: Verlanov is a solid nomination but it remains to be seen whether
President-elect Volodymyr Zelenskiy will keep him in place. It’s also worth
considering that the State Customs Service and State Tax Service were merged
into the Revenue and Fees Ministry in 2012, which was reorganized into the
State Fiscal Service. The IMF is requesting the government to dissolve the
State Fiscal Service and return them as separate bodies, a process launched by
the Cabinet with a December resolution.
