Yekhanurov's Bid For Prime Minister Fails.

Yekhanurov's Bid For Prime Minister Fails.

21 September 2008

Of the 226 votes needed to be named PM, acting Prime Minster Yurii Yekhanurov received 223. President Yushchenko has called for a meeting with the heads of all the parliamentary factions to discuss a possible compromise that would allow them to support Yekhanurov’s candidacy.  Concorde Capital: This is a blow to the President, who over the last few weeks has worked to bring unity to the government. However, this is not the end of the road for Yekhanurov, the President can put him forward as a candidate two more times.  We believe a compromise will eventually be found, as four members of Yushchenko’s Our Ukraine Party abstained from voting.
