13 May 2008

During President Viktor Yushchenko’s televised speech last night he received questions from 26,000 callers and live participants. The President said Ukrainians should decide whether to join the EU via a national memorandum and added that NATO membership was not on the immediate agenda. Most of the questions during the two-hour long broadcast focused on social issues such as the status of World War II veterans and future of Russian and Ukrainian languages. The President promised he would hold another live broadcast in 100 days.
