Yushchenko Rejects Reprivatization List

Yushchenko Rejects Reprivatization List

10 June 2008

President Viktor Yushchenko did not approve the list of companies targeted for privatization revision yesterday and requested the Cabinet review the list further. He said the list, rumored to include 29 companies, was too long. Concorde Capital:  This is a positive sign that the Cabinet and other government agencies are seeking presidential consent for the privatization revision process.  Nonetheless, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko?s continues to call a new tender for Kryvorizhstal (KRST). It seems that the Tymoshenko and Yushchenko are still using their ?good cop bad cop? routine to negotiate with businesses. The President acts as a peace maker with local industries, while Tymoshenko lobbies hard for sector-wide re-privatizations. While the government will likely compromise with industry leaders over the re-privatization issue, Tymoshenko?s antics will help ensure the government gets the business groups in line.
