Ukrainian President Zelensky signed on Dec. 23 a bill
approved by parliament this month to reduce pressure on business by state
bodies with market oversight, the President’s Office website said. The law was
the last point in Ukraine’s list of tasks to gain “industrial visa-free” status
with the EU, based on the Agreement of Conformity Assessment and Acceptance.
This agreement covers any number of 27 economic sectors, with the potential to
reach a fifth of Ukrainian exports to the EU, especially in the sphere of
machine-building, the eurointegration.com.ua news site said.
Meanwhile, the law aims to reduce corruption risks
among state officials during inspections, as well as improve the protection of
consumer rights from harmful products. It eliminates excessive oversight of
certain products and unifies inspections in order to eliminate abuses. It also
sets clear and transparent requirements for inspectors of markets.
Zenon Zawada: The Zelensky administration is fully committed to EU integration and
will continue to move forward with it, so long as representatives of the
Donetsk and Luhansk republics aren’t granted the ability to interfere (with
their possible reintegration back into the Ukrainian state, as outlined in the
Minsk Accords). Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic course will be far more difficult if
they’re able to block Euro-Atlantic integration at the Kremlin’s behest.
