Zelensky: Ukraine to cut greenhouse gas emissions 65% by 2030

2 November 2021

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Nov. 1 that
Ukraine would cut greenhouse gas emissions (GGE) by 65% by the year 2030.
Zelensky made the statement at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow,
ukrinform.net reports. He also said that Ukraine would become climate neutral
by no later than 2060.

James Hydzik: In the short term, with coal becoming an even more important fuel than
usual given the present gas issues, the GGE situation in Ukraine could actually
get worse. However, the mid and long term do point to continued reductions in
GGE. The biggest challenge might not be technical but rather the pollution in the
bureaucratic and legal landscape.
