Ukrainian Interbank Currency Exchange cancels POON privatization tender

14 May 2008

Ukrainian Interbank Currency Exchange (UICE) announced yesterday evening the privatization tender for a 25%+1 stake in Poltavaoblenergo (POON: U/R), backed by Kirovograd region district court ruling. The ban on POON’s privatization is in force only on May 14, the date of scheduled tender by the SPF. The UICE cancelled the tender last Wednesday, by the order of Valentyna Semenyuk-Samsonenko, head of SPF and on the next day recalled the cancellation, based on the order of Andriy Portnov, who is also vying for control of the SPF. Alexander Paraschiy: As we expected (refer to our May 8 note), even the day before the tender, it was not clear whether it would occur. Lvivoblenergo’s privatization tender is scheduled for tomorrow, and it is highly likely that today in the evening or tomorrow in the morning, a Ukrainian courts will ban this tender too.
