The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine asked the Verkhovna Rada to amend the 2008 budget to provide UAH 400 mln (USD 82.5 mln) for agricultural companies to defray interest payment costs, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said yesterday. Additionally, Tymoshenko called for regional governors to arrange for preferential interest rates for agricultural companies. According to Yuriy Melnik, Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy, so far this year, agricultural companies have received UAH 6.3 bln (USD 1.2 bln) in loans, which is 17% lower than in the same period of 2007.
