Ukrainian Sugar Production Tumbles 25% in 11M07 yoy

6 December 2008

According to Interfax Ukraine, Ukrainian sugar mills produced 1.773 mln mt of sugar as of December 4, which is a drop of 25% yoy. The cutback in production is due to delayed sugar-refining season and lackluster harvest. Olga Pankiv: We anticipate that the total amount of sugar produced will reach 1.9 mln mt in the 2007/08 season, 27% lower compared to the previous one. Additionally, about 0.25 mln mt of sugar will be made out of the raw cane sugar imported in accordance to the WTO agreements after Ukraine joins the WTO, most likely in 2008.
