Zelensky signs law adjusting NABU status with legislation

President Volodymyr Zelensky signed into law changes
to legislation to eliminate contradictions between the status of the National
Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Constitution. The changes
guarantee the independence of the NABU, its composition and appointments and
dismissals, as well as how it is audited, president.gov.ua announced on Nov 8.

James Hydzik: The NABU’s existence is now more certain. Cautious optimism is
permitted, considering that the judiciary is also undergoing change, and that
those who come to the attention of the NABU are likely to have fewer options to
use against it. Those options, such as a Cabinet dismissal of the NABU
director, will have to be grounded. The international spotlight needs to remain
on the NABU as the new support is bound to be tested in practice.
