Ukraine real wage growth accelerates to 15.7% yoy in August

1 October 2018

Real wages in Ukraine grew 15.7% yoy in August,
accelerating from 14.7% yoy growth in July, the State Statistics Service
reported on Sept. 28. The average monthly nominal wage decreased to UAH 8,977 a
month (USD 327) from UAH 9,170 in July, which is a 2.1% m/m decline in real
terms.

The leading regions for average monthly wages remained
the city of Kyiv (UAH 13,659), the Ukrainian-controlled Donetsk region (UAH
9,759) and the Kyiv region (UAH 9,166).

The largest nominal average wage growth was in public
services and defense (40%) and transport (31%). Within the industrial sector,
the highest nominal wages were in pharmaceuticals (UAH 17,052), mining (UAH
13,013), and in coke and oil production (UAH 11,323).

Evgeniya Akhtyrko: The continuing economic upsurge is fueling the relatively high growth rate of real
wages. The month-to-month drop of wages in August is usual for Ukraine, caused
by seasonal factors. We expect real wages to increase 9-10% yoy in 2018.
