On Monday evening President Yuschenko relieved Yuriy Prodan of his joint post as First Deputy Minister of Fuel and Energy and President of the National Energy Company NC ECU. The dismissal was connected to the President?s decision to liquidate this joint position to avoid a conflict of interest. Later Yuriy Prodan was appointed First Deputy Minister of Fuel and Energy. Concorde Capital: In September several members of the Rada questioned the validity of Prodan’s joint position, as deputy minister and president of the joint-stock company in court. Rather than wait for the court?s decision Yushchenko decided to divide the joint position. Yuriy Prodan?s influence in the energy sector will be lessened, but only slightly, as he is still on the supervisory board of the NC ECU, and leads the working group for key electricity reforms.
